THE PARISH AND THE CHURCH

On June 4, 1991 has started the building of the church of the Most Holy Virgin Mary Queen of the Rosary in Palemonas.
On October 1991 archibishop S. Tamkevičius SJ has blessed the corner stone.

The local faithuls engageg in finding a lot of offerings for the building of the church, but the amount of money was not enough. In Lithuania the vallue of the local valute changed, and the building stopped.

At the half of June 1992, as new parish priest in Petrašiūnai, from St. Anthony’s parish in Kaunas, arrived fr. Krizantas Juknevičius SDB. The cardinal V. Sladkevičius gave him the duty to take care not of the faithfuls of the parish of Petrašiūnai, but of the church‘s building for the faithfuls in Palemonas.

In 1993, with the official consense of the faithfuls of Palemonas and of Neveronis, the foundation of the new parish and of the church was assigned to the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

Salesians accepted to take the charge of parish‘s foundation, and by their own financement they started very quickly to build not only the church, but also the house for the salesian community.

In the same year, on church‘s territory was started the building of the house of Mary Help of Chrstians‘ Daughters.
On June 10, 1993, fr. Kr. Juknevičius was discharged from the duty of parish priest in Petrašiūnai, and nominated parish priest in the nw parish of Palemonas. From then , the Holy Mass was celebrated already in the big room under the church which was building up. In this provisory chapel was collocated the statues of Mary Help of Christians and of st. John Bosco.

The building‘s works inside the church was completed in the spring of 1996. On Agust 15, in the same year, the Archbishop Metropolite S. Tamkevičius consecrated the new church of the Most Holy Virgin Mary Queen of the Rosary.
In 1997, the master sculptor Henrikas Ratautas decorated the inside of the church by the Via Lucis – which tells about the events according to the Holy Scripture after Jesus‘ resurrection- it is formed by tables in carved wood.

The same author prapred the altar, the baptister and the tabernacle, and after taht the traditional Via Crucis.

In the church, misters K. K. M. Karnaševičiai have rebuilt the pipe-organ, coming from England and then built in 1939.
On May 23, 2001, in the church’s tower mr. S. Stulpinis placed the bells, fabracated in Poland. The biggest bell is dedicated to the glory of the Holy Virgin Mary and st. John Bosco, the second is dedicated to st. Anthony, also in the honour of the first Salesian from Lithuania, fr. Antanas Skeltys, the third, in the honour of the martir from Lithuania Elena Spirgevičiūtė (her beatification bill has been opened).

At the moment, the parish is growing as a small seed of the Kingdom od God.

The Parish today

After the church building, Archbishop Mons. S. Tamkevičius approved the border’s lines of the parish,in which are Palemonas and Neveronis. Here live about 10,000 people. Every Sunday attend the Holy Mass from 600 to 800 faithfuls.
In the church, as organist, works mr. Arvydas Paulauskas (adults‘ choir) and msr. Joana Tarasavičienė (childrens and joung people‘s choir). The adults‘ choir and the childrens and young peolple‘s choir sing on every Sunday and on Feast days at the Holy Mass.

In the parish work the members of parish‘s "Caritas".

Three salesian sisters and a lay woman as cathechist prepare the children and young people to the sacraments of Confession, Holy Comunion and Confirmation. Since some years, in the parish, is working a catechetic programme for the adults.

Exist the every day‘s Oratorio, we organize summer camps.

The Salesians and the Mary Help of Christian Sisters actively collaborate with the teachers and the students of the goverment‘s schools of Palemonas and Neveronis.

Salesian Sisters since about 10 years take care of abandoned children or from problematic families in the Daily Centre of Palemonas.

It has been formed the prayers‘ group of the Living Rosary, the Legion of Mary, and others.

People make frindship each other not only by prayer, but also by working together, as cleaning the territory around, the organization of the Feast of the Sunday after Easter, of Christmas, St. John Bosco, the Feast of the Holy Virgin Mary, the Feast of the Father and of the Mother, other meetings and initiatives.
